How to Plan VCT Floor Maintenance

The previous site discussed VCT floor care. The useful decision is whether routine maintenance will protect the current finish or whether worn areas need a new strip-and-wax plan.

What goes into the plan

Make the work specific.

Every building and project has its own limits. These are the details we review before putting a price in writing.

Inspect

Look at traffic lanes

Compare entrances and corridors with low-traffic corners. Differences help identify wear rather than general dirt.

Maintain

Match the method

Use a floor-care method appropriate to the material and existing finish. Aggressive cleaning can damage a surface.

Schedule

Plan downtime

A stripping project needs clear access, an empty floor, drying time, and a reopening plan.

Document

Keep a floor map

Record materials, problem spots, prior coatings if known, and who approves the finished appearance.

Before the proposal

Questions to bring to the floor review

A floor should be identified in person before anyone assumes stripping and waxing is the correct treatment.

  1. Is the floor VCT, linoleum, ceramic tile, or another material?
  2. Where is finish worn, discolored, or uneven?
  3. Can furniture and equipment be moved, and by whom?
  4. When can the area remain free of foot traffic?
